Campaign style: Plot-based

Players: Alica – “Kalia”; Robert – “Seiyan”

Setting: Tyrannically controlled swampland

Style: Salis is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I’ve always wanted to do a ‘collection’ campaign (even though some may say it is a little amateurish), where the players have to gather together things (or parts of a thing) in order to accomplish a main goal. It’s a classic in video games and cartoons, and I’ve always enjoyed those types of things… it can simply be hard to do right in a gaming setting (without it become monotonous and losing momentum).

Summery: Salis is a despotic land, controlled by an Emperor and his council (powerful mages all). Towns and cities are no more than massive companies, producing huge amounts of goods using slave (and near-slave) labor to do so, allowing the various company heads and city-state kings to become massively rich. This is also a highly misogynistic land, with women playing a very deferential role in society; the best of them standing not much higher than a slave.

Enter our heroes, members of a long standing (and largely ineffectual) rebellion, doing what they can to survive outside of the Emperor’s grasp, when they stumble upon an ancient ruin that shows them what the country once was: a glorious land under the control of a water goddess that was locked away by the current patron god, Kassotar the Snake Lord. Further discoveries lead them to believe that by finding ancient relics of the old goddess, they can allow her to influence her old lands once again, and possibly help them in their fight against the Emperor.

Currently, they have found enough relics to allow the goddess to speak to them, and bless them with great powers, but more are needed to have her able to fully reveal herself in her lands once again. A tough choice was made to sacrifice one relic to save a city horribly corrupted by a hideous cult, and now they quickly search for the next relic, finding themselves in forgotten (and hidden) old temples, tracked by the Emperor’s best hunters and other enemies that they have made along the way.
